How do you start your day?
Your start of the day is so important to how the rest of the day goes. You want to wake up and start on a good note here are a few tips and ideas to get your day off on the right foot!
Meditate: even a simple 5-10 minute meditation is a great start. Simply sit on the edge of your bed/ on a chair or on your meditation cushion is a nice part of your room and rest your hands on your lap, close your eyes and deeply connect to the breath. Being mindful of the breath is one of the easiest ways to meditate. Concentrate on the breath coming in through the nostrils, down the throat and filling the lungs. Follow the breath as you exhale also, notice the temperature of the breath on the inhale and exhale, connect to the gentle movement in the body. This allows the mind to be still, it can be done anywhere and at any time!
Yoga: starting the day with a yoga practice is a must for me. It combines a great body stretch with breath work and a meditation all in one. Even if you do not have a regular yoga practice simply doing a few poses to wake up the body and easy out the stiffness. Exercise: so many people love to get up and run. It is a wonderful way to clear the mind and stay active, running outdoors is even better as you are breathing in clean fresh air. Or going to the gym is great too but try to stay in the moment rather then just drifting off and watching the morning show on the TV’s around you!
Breathe: in all the above cases breath is key! Be aware of the breath. This is a really important yet super simple task to do in life. By connecting to the breath you really become aware of your state of mind and emotions. Check out the next time you are angry or moody… where is the breath at? Regulate it and it is really impossible to stay in a negative state.
Lemon and hot water: I love this one! Warm water with lemon so zesty! Definitely a great way to wake up the system, cleanse the palate and prepare the stomach for a day of digesting!
Affirmations: Have your list of positive affirmations by your bed, inside your wardrobe or stuck to the fridge. Repeat the affirmations every time you see them. “I am responsible for the quality of my life” “I invite fun and laughter into my life” “I am successful and financially secure” “I love who I am and I am loved”
To do list: write a ‘to do’ list and trust that it will be achieved! Be realistic about what you can get done today and simply get through it. Try not to add to it through out the day – put it on tomorrow’s list if you have to. Write at the end of the list. “I have all the time, money and energy to achieve this to do list today”.
